My unit was very cheap, just about 30 EUR, but it came without a power supply. I used macs for almost20 years.

It is definitely nice to have the options, however. When using lots of external MIDI devices, a dedicated multiport interface definitely is a must have.

You can also just use the AMT 8 without a computer as a regular MIDI interface if you don't want or need it to be used with any software.
